Our Story

MY GUYS HOME is a locally owned small business that started as five former employees of a major painting brand. When the local franchise closed, one employee decided to start her own painting business to "get my guys working again." The idea, born of just getting a crew going quickly grew into plans for so much more. With a son close to completing his Red Seal in construction, a nephew considering pursuing a career as an electrician and family members and friends also in the business of cleaning, concrete and lawn maintenance, that growing plan became a goal of providing customers with crew members that were truly "MY GUYS" to Jess, owner-operator and visionary of MY GUYS HOME. "In painting, cleaning, construction, framing and building, landscaping, concrete, and so much more to come, I aim to provide my customers with a friendly, competent and professional crew."

"My goal is to provide my customers with an honest, good quality job that is done on time - but not rushed. With excellent customer service, all while building crews that are truly like family. We will do this by hiring employees that are reliable, trustworthy, polite and, of course, fun and easy to have in your home - just like having the guys over. It also doesn't hurt that quite a few of the crew are my family!

"I also plan on shaking up the workforce by providing all of MY GUYS with a living wage that is above the average living wage for the area. We will all be paid the same hourly wage - even me and we will all split our yearly profit evenly. I feel so strongly that a large problem in our world is the idea that some people's time is somehow worth more than another's. My days, hours, weeks and years are worth no more and no less than anyone else's, and I feel that is true for everyone. Everyone's time is valuable to them and their loved ones, and I expect no one to sell their labour to me for so much less than I would charge so that I can grossly profit while they struggle (just because I have the privilege of being able to run my own business). I am offering unlimited time off, four-day workweeks, and an environment that is fun, respectful of everyone and at the same time professional, safe and efficient. It is also my goal to provide MY GUYS with a rewarding job, to treat them with the respect they deserve and to provide them with a great wage - just a great work environment. I think it's important that we stop infantilizing the workplace, that we stop valuing some jobs over others and that we not only address but remedy the fact that work isn't always a place you are happy at. These are all things that are so so important for me to change."

Founder & Owner/Operator

Mother of two bio children & too many to count bonus children. Interested in cooking and baking, hiking, snowboarding, music, reading, learning languages, helping others, learning everything I can, adventuring and always striving to be better.

Concepcion "C"

Concepcion and his family have been deported. We can't imagine what he and his family are going through, but we wish them our best.

We can not believe that the Canadian government could rip the only home his children have really even known away from them. C's kids were 1, 6 and 9 when they came to Canada and now they are 7, 13 and 15.

Concepcion has been allowed to stay for the time being!

As I'm sure many of you have noticed on our socials, C can stay!

Concepcion left Mexico after he was kidnaped, bound, blindfolded and held at gunpoint. He does not wish to return, and for good reason. We are so relieved that he and his family can stay for now, but we need to remain vigilant and work hard to protect not just C and his family but all asylum seekers who turn to Canada.

On June 16th, the Supreme Court of Canada failed to decisively rule on the Third Safe Country Agreement. Refugees who face deportation because of this agreement face rights violations and worse. Those with children face the very real possibility of never seeing their children again. The United States has misplaced or lost 85,000 migrant children. This is absolutely horrifying, and we all need to stand up for what is right. I encourage everyone to let your government officials know that we are calling on the government to withdraw from the agreement. Rescind the STCA.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that C's application for permanent residency has been denied. We are all so sad to see Concepcion, his wife Delfina and his three adorable children go back to Mexico. We hope our efforts will bring him back to Canada in the future.

Hailey is our ray of sunshine. She is literally ALWAYS smiling.

Fox "Gap Out"

Fox helps out when he can and is definately comedic relief when onsite. He is currently working on learning framing and carpentry.

Vivian "Viv, Viva, V"

Viv is new to the crew and still learning, but she picks it up fast, is quick to help and isn't afraid to push herself. She is currently completing school, and the future is hers to discover!
